Dassault Systèmes’ Science in the Age of Experience goes online

EPISODE 1: POWERING A BETTER FUTURE WITH SCIENCE on October 13, 2020

By any estimation, 2020 has been a dramatic year, and we are only three-quarters through it. We have faced a worldwide pandemic, massive wild fires, hurricanes in the Atlantic, Pacific and the Mediterranean, urban demonstrations through the world, and sometimes all happening simultaneously.

The urgency has never been greater for science and technology to drive innovations, foster life-changing collaborations and push us towards a more sustainable future. Yet, although the challenges to our world and life have been daunting, we have witnessed also through it all incredible resilience, courage and response from communities throughout the world.

With this as our backdrop, Dassault Systèmes will host our first virtual Science in the Age of Experience event – a series of four episodes over five weeks, highlighting scientific innovations underway now in life sciences, sustainable manufacturing and making cities sustainable. We are bringing together leading scientific minds from around the globe with you, virtually online for presentations of their work, LIVE roundtable discussions and interactive Q&A.

Each episode will last 2 hours, and begin at convenient times to accommodate multiple time zones and facilitate LIVE interaction with our audience. Our goal is to build a global scientific community across the industry spectrum.

On Tuesday, October 13, EPISODE 1: POWERING A BETTER FUTURE WITH SCIENCE starts the event with Bernard Charlès, Dassault Systèmes’ Vice Chairman and CEO describing the journey from things to life.

Bernard Charles, Vice chairman, CEO, Dassault Systèmes

We call it the “virtual twin experience of humans,” innovating by and for the citizen-patient-consumer of daily value services. Bernard will show this new stage in Dassault Systèmes’ evolution from modeling things to experiencing life in virtual worlds. “Virtual” is about what is possible – the potentiality. Dassault Systèmes’ ultimate purpose and primary resource are one and the same – the human being. Experience is human.

Our next guest is winner of the 2018 Nobel Prize in chemistry, Frances Arnold, Linus Pauling Professor of Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering and Biochemistry at the California Institute of Technology. Professor Arnold has always been mesmerized by the chemistry of the natural biological world and its incredible transformational diversity that underpins the beauty of our world.  In her work, she approaches chemistry with an engineering background, and pioneered the evolution of enzymes that catalyze nearly all reactions of the living world. Through her work and the new tools available today, we are moving beyond just reading, writing and editing DNA and towards composing it.

Neil will showcase work done by teams from around the world, including from Dassault Systèmes, the only 3D software company involved, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

EPISODE 1 will finish with a roundtable discussion including myself, Claire Biot, Vice President, Life Sciences industry at Dassault Systèmes, and Alice Steenland, Chief Sustainability Officer, Dassault Systèmes.
