As we close the calendar on a busy 2022 here at Dassault Systèmes, it’s prime time to remember some of the major events, accomplishments and announcements from the year. Highlights include celebrating sustainability, expanding brands and offerings, launching cool projects and more.

Let’s take a look back at some the people, places and things that marked another successful year at Dassault Systèmes.

People

A series of leadership evolutiosn led off the year here at Dassault Systèmes. In early February, we announced Pascal Daloz would focus on his mission as COO while Rouven Bergmann had been appointed as EVP and Chief Financial Officer, moves meant to prepare 3DS for the future with continuity in leadership and by combining cross-generational talent.

Then, a few days later at 3DEXPERIENCE World, we announced leadership evolutions that will help shape both SOLIDWORKS and 3DEXPERIENCE Works. After a seven-year run as CEO of SOLIDWORKS, Gian Paolo Bassi was announced as the EVP heading up Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE Works organization. Manish Kumar, who’d been in charge of SOLIDWORKS R&D since 2018, was named the brand’s new CEO.

Our deep commitment to sustainability was apparent throughout the year. In November, we announced the appointment of Philippine de T’Serclaes as chief sustainability officer to lead sustainability strategy and drive our purpose of harmonizing product, nature and life. Earlier, more than 1,000 employees worldwide were trained with the Climate Fresk association as part of our Leap for Sustainability internal innovation program.

Places

In August, we announced we’ve expanded to Vietnam – one of the fastest-growing markets in Southeast Asia – to help support the country’s goals of being a green manufacturing hub and more circular economy. The office is located in Hanoi’s Ba Dinh District, which is both the nation’s political center and its main industrial hub.

The following month, we opened the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab Munich, our fourth startup accelerator as part of our global initiative. The Munich Lab is located at our 3DEXCITE offices and has close ties to the brand, which offers immersive marketing solutions for interactive storytelling and data commercialization. Fabien Barthel head’s up the Munich Lab and hopes it will be a catalyst to invite participation from Dassault Systèmes employees and build our reputation as innovators and thought leaders.

Things

Furthering our mission to harmonize product, nature and life, in February we announced the launch of our life cycle assessment (LCA) solution to help companies minimize their environmental impacts and help drive the circular economy.

In May, we announced the third act in our The Only Progress is Human campaign, Living Heritage, in which student teams from around the world used the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to recreate the Colosseum, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Konark Sun Temple, Pompeii, the Porta Nigra and Shuri Castle virtually. The student teams showcased their “Living Heritage” projects in June at the Citéde la Réussite in Paris, including a VR experience allowing people to discover the sites in an interactive way.

Also in June, Dassault Systèmes brand Medidata announced it joined the White House Cancer Moonshot Initiative by working with the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to enroll patients in the Cancer Moonshot Biobank. The biobank brings together tumor, blood and health data donated by people with cancer to gain better understanding of how cancer behaves.

In September, we announced the acquisition of Diota, a French developer of assembly assistance and quality control software solutions for manufacturing and operations. The acquisition is meant to expand the 3DEXPERIENCE platform with actionable virtual twin experiences for the shop floor to optimize complex industrial processes and boost operational efficiency.

In October, we announced our cloud brand OUTSCALE is expanding its offering from trusted hyper-scalable infrastructure as a service to sovereign environments for trusted business experience as a service. At the same time, we joined Docaposte, a digital subsidiary of La Poste group, Bouygues Telecom and Banque des Territoires in an alliance to create NUMSPOT, a company  dedicated to the development of a full offering of sovereign and trusted cloud services in Europe.

During fall 2022, teams of Dassault Systèmes experts spanning multiple industries joined forces to reimagine the Eiffel Tower to demonstrate how virtual worlds can drive sustainable transformation of cities and infrastructure. A largely virtual project and marketing campaign, the “Building Tomorrow” project is meant to inspire different players in cities and infrastructure to join forces along the value chain to build a more sustainable future.

In late November, we announced plans to work with Samsung Heavy Industries to create a “smart yard” based on new digital transformation technology with the aim to establish a fully digital shipyard and a competitive edge. It’ll be designed to optimize the shipyard operations’ scheduling and execution as well as streamline and automate the flow of information required for construction, to accelerate production and assembly operations.

Ending the year on a high note, in late December we announced achieving top scores in leading global environmental, social and governance ratings to cap off a year of milestones recognizing ESG performance.  Achievements include attaining the “leader” rating of “AAA” from MSCI, a “platinum” medal rating from EcoVadis and placing among the top 1% of companies in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.
