Today, we have entered the third age of enterprise, where “Purpose” is paramount.  The first age of enterprise focused on “Product,” the second age of enterprise focused on “Process,” and the third age of enterprise, ultimately, focuses on “Purpose.”  Companies have progressed beyond incrementalism of improving products or increasing production efficiencies to reach a juncture that has forced us to pause – and prioritize long-term values and purpose, centered on sustainability.

Today, accelerating innovation is synonymous with accelerating sustainability. As India moves towards achieving sustainable development and a $5 trillion economy by 2025, game-changing innovation powered by cutting-edge technology will be central to its growth. Simulation is a science-based approach that allows us to capture real-world behavior in the virtual environment of computers, opening up infinite possibilities for sustainable innovation. It can help enterprises achieve efficiency gains, reduce waste, and minimize risk by enabling seamless testing of small changes at the early stages of production.

Inside Episode 1: “Simulation Reveals the Real World”

The nation is aiming to improve domestic manufacturing capacities, to eventually realize a vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat or self-reliant India through sustainable development. In this context, simulation revolutionizes the process of product development, right from conceptualization and design to the actual production process. The first episode of our LinkedIn Live series – titled Simulation Reveals the Real World – provides a glimpse into this journey of value creation with examples and real-world stories.

Episode 1 brings together Renuka SRINIVASAN, Director SIMULIA India at Dassault Systèmes, with G.S. KRISHNAMURTHY, Head CAE at Royal Enfield, Pamela TIKKU, Chief Business Officer at ICAT-International Centre for Automotive Technology, Shree HARSHA, India Marketing Director at Dassault Systèmes, Venkat PERUMAL, Senior Principal Engineer- CAE, Stryker Global Technology Center, and Suyog SHINDE, Deputy General Manager, Heavy Engineering at Larsen and Toubro.

Introducing SIMULIA, Renuka Srinivasan said, “SIMULIA’s science-based approach allows us to capture the real-world behavior in the virtual environment of our computers. With the initiatives like Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the government is encouraging people to develop products in India, and our solutions will help achieve and accelerate this process of product development.”

Highlighting the need to adopt simulation to attain self-reliance, Pamela Tikku said, “Simulation has reduced the vehicle development process from 4-6 years to 2-3 years; it has also helped meet the regulatory requirements. The transition from BS-IV to BS-VI in India by auto manufacturers in the shortest possible time, as compared to the rest of the economies, has been made possible because of simulation.”

This illustrates the game-changing potential of simulation for India’s industrial community. The technology can be easily adapted to create designs and plan processes that would provide optimal solutions to meet any regulations or standards we aim for in today’s competitive environment. Most importantly, simulation addresses the core concern of manufacturers — cost.

The Benefits of Simulation Applications

The key benefit of SIMULIA application powered by the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is that it enables virtual testing of product performance to reduce the number of prototypes, and therefore, the use of resources. This makes product development leaner and more sustainable, essentially allowing users to do more with less. At the heart of this is the V+R concept, which uses the virtual world to understand and reveal the physical world.

Shree Harsha, India Marketing Director at Dassault Systèmes said, “Simulation is playing a significant role in businesses’ core decision-making process today as you can now visualize, without spending money on physical prototypes, how the product will be and how it will operate.”

Apart from manufacturing efficiency, simulation also improves end-user results – a crucial factor in sectors like healthcare. Smarter design, better time to market, and more precise delivery can significantly improve patient outcomes and physician experiences with medical equipment. Simulation is key to supporting personalized healthcare and patient-centric outcomes, by enabling customization as per the patient’s anatomy.

Sharing his views about simulation in the life sciences industry, Venkat Perumalsaid said, “Simulation continues to drive best practices in new product development processes and also helps the users, all the customers of medical devices to understand the devices and to better train the physicians and is also, a powerful tool for the marketing and sales.”

Similarly, Suyog Shinde from Larsen and Toubro explained at the LinkedIn Live episode how simulation adds value not just in R&D and design, but also in other stages like transportation, equipment installation, etc. “This has helped us anticipate the possible challenges and take appropriate measures at a very early stage. This enables us to deliver products to our customers before the deadlines,” he said.
