Serving car manufacturers worldwide for over 50 years, Geico Taikisha, together with Dassault Systèmes, are set to revolutionize the world of turnkey automated car painting systems with the industry giant’s latest innovation—a new and improved Smart Paintshop. Combining the manufacturing expertise of Dassault Systèmes and the auto body painting prowess of Geico Taikisha, this cooperation came to full fruition as an initiative to improve the production flexibility of automotive manufacturers in an era of increasing mass customization.

The premiere of the Smart Paintshop takes place during the Digital Factory Showcase on 9 September 2020 at the Pardis Innovation Centre in Cinisello Balsamo, Italy. Audiences will be invited to tour the facility virtually to experience and learn first-hand how Geico Taikisha implemented DELMIA applications to unlock the Smart Paintshop’s full potential.

Envisioned as the car paint shop of the future, it integrates smart, connected and strategic solutions to improve the efficiency, safety, quality and costs of future mobility solution paint jobs. The showcase will introduce several new features of the Paintshop, starting with the brain of the operations: the J-Suite, a digital platform that manages communications between processes and systems of the end consumer, complemented by an IoT system and technologies that enable smart plant, energy and design management. It is also supported by a Paintshop Execution System, which is a MES system that is fully adapted to match the requirements of its specific environment. Powered by DELMIA Apriso, which helps to create deep insights throughout the entire car painting process, the Smart Paintshop system manages, guides and documents each step with pinpoint precision—from production order to desired result.

Viewers will be able to experience these combined features in action and see how an unfinished car body is transformed into a perfectly painted one. In addition, the Geico Taikisha Digital Factory Showcase will reveal insights into the improvements made to the Paintshop that have enabled:

  • Increased production flexibility with digital Strip Out capabilities and changes to production orders
  • Smarter and more insightful analysis with the ability to assess an entire car body’s history at a glance
  • More efficient decision-making and process flow, facilitated by industrial IoT, optimized HMI and edge processing

With this innovation, Geico Taikisha offers an end-to-end solution to its automotive customers that will help them adapt to increasing demands for high-quality, low-cost products and high levels of customization and be prepared for future challenges, all while delivering unique value and quality.
