Dassault Systèmes is pleased to be have been a Gold Sponsor of the 16th annual ADM Congress on 13 February 2019 for the second year running. It was an honour engaging with top defence chiefs and C-level executives of prime contractors serving the defence sector in the country.

In this blog post, we bring you highlights of Dassault Systèmes’ activities at ADM Congress 2019.

Exclusive Pre-Conference VIP Breakfast

Before the commencement of the plenary, Dassault Systèmes organised a Pre-Conference VIP Breakfast extended to the speakers and VIP delegates of the ADM Congress at the Crowne Plaza Canberra.

During the Breakfast Presentation, Narayan Sreenivasan, Dassault Systèmes’ Strategic Business Development leader for Asia-Oceania, spoke on Dassault Systèmes’ focus on industry collaboration amongst prime contractors, SMEs, government bodies and academics as the key driver to successful creation of a strong defence supply chain in Australia. Collaborative partnerships are better able to leverage Australian industrial defence capabilities and stimulate innovation in the sector.

South Australia’s Virtual Shipyard skills development capability program in collaboration with the South Australia Government and AMGC, and the establishment of Dassault Systèmes’ South Australia office in-campus at the University of Adelaide are examples of collaborative partnerships contributing to the development of Australia’s defence eco-system and sovereign capabilities.

The VIP Breakfast event was well attended by over 50 VIP delegates. We were glad for the opportunity to network with key members of Australia’s defence community.

Roundtable session on “Innovation and Collaboration in Developing Defence Capability”

During the Roundtable session on “Innovation and Collaboration in Developing Defence Capability”, Dassault Systèmes’ speaker, Narayan Sreenivasan, engaged with the following top executives from Australia’s defence sector:

  • Glen Ferguson, Director of the Product Support & Maintenance Capability, Boeing Defence Australia
  • Chris Keane, Director – Future Business, BAE Systems Australia

Moderated by Ms Katherine Ziesling, Managing Editor of ADM, the session addressed how prime contractors are collaborating with SMEs, government agencies and academics to build up Australia’s future defence capabilities. For the highlights from the Roundtable session, view the video above.

Here are some of our key takeaways from the session:

  • Collaboration from both prime contractors and SMEs is key to the success of large defence projects in cultivating innovation as well as developing Australia’s defence sovereign capabilities. Glen Ferguson, Director Product Support and Maintenance capability at Boeing Australia, said: “Partnerships with SMEs will become a necessity. Without the contribution of the SMEs, we will not have innovation.”
  • Collaboration is a core pillar of Dassault Systèmes’ recent initiatives in Australia’s defence sector. Dassault Systèmes actively engages with SMEs to foster collaborative partnerships that connect with prime contractors. Said Narayan Sreenivasan: “The Virtual Shipyard program in South Australia is about creating an ecosystem to deliver a high value, world class defence supply chain that creates sustainable jobs for the future. Through this program, selected SMEs undergo comprehensive training programs to develop industry-ready capabilities to work with prime contractors and export innovative products.”
  • Research & Development is the cornerstone of building up a sustainable defence eco-system, to ensure that multi-year programs can thrive amid future disruptive innovations. Involving academics alongside with prime contractors and SMEs in these programs is essential.
