“We need to create cities that can be drivers of the economy”. This was the vision set out by Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak in 2018.

In line with this vision, Dassault Systèmes signed a partnership with the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) during Digital Thailand Big Bang 2018, Thailand’s largest national digital and technology exhibition, to collaborate on digital projects covering two key domains: re-designing the education system and vocational training to cultivate the country’s workforce of the future; and future “smart city” developments. These will be key projects driving depa’s ‘Digital Thailand’ strategic plan for the new ‘Thailand 4.0’ economic model.

2019 marks the third year of Thailand 4.0, the government’s 20-year plan to transform Thailand’s economy. By the end of the year, high-speed internet broadband access will be expanded to all the country’s 75,000 villages. As a result, depa is escalating “Digital Thailand” projects to establish the country as Asia’s leading IoT hub.

So what opportunities and challenges await businesses looking to capitalize on Thailand 4.0?
