Just like that, another 3DEXPERIENCE Forum concludes! At this year’s North American event in Boston, we’ve had great presentations and conversations that have underlined this year’s theme, “Beyond Digitalization: The Industry Renaissance.” With a focus around how the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is preparing companies for the experience economy, today’s sessions continued to highlight how an Industry Renaissance is driving new ways of living, working, interacting, innovating and creating new business.

During today’s plenary session, we learned from several customers how the 3DEXPERIENCE platform enables quicker innovation, productivity and time to market across industries – from transportation and mobility to aerospace and defense.

The session kicked off with Pascal Brosset and Alexandre Capone of Capgemini, a global leader in consulting, technology services and digital transformation, where they discussed the challenges and value of continuity between product engineering and manufacturing.

Capgemini’s Brosset: Dont’ try to go digital if you’re not already lean. Even most lean operations are challenged by the complexity. Getting to closed loop (info- to fact-based management) is mostly a cultural change. See failure bc managers don’t change behavior. #3dexperience — Digital Engineering (@DEeditor) June 21, 2018

Next, Olivier de Percin, vice president of the high tech industry at Dassault Systèmes, discussed how companies can focus on connected, contextual and continuous experiences at the center of their digital transformation. Olivier gave illustrations of the new experiences created by Dassault Systèmes’ customers using the Platform across industries; specifically as auto manufacturers transition their production processes to meet the requirements of autonomous vehicles.

Following Olivier’s presentation, Dr. Knut Suer, Co-Founder of Arrivo Corporation, a startup company working to commercialize hyperloop vehicle transportation, shared how Arrivo is inventing the future of transportation with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. Using the Platform, Arrivo was able to simulate its first prototype in CATIA, enabling engineers and designers to make changes to the product before it went into physical production. Dassault Systèmes is empowering Arrivo as it strives to achieve its goal of getting more cars on the road while alleviating traffic congestion.

After Knut’s presentation, a panel of experts and academics expanded on the Workforce of the Future topics introduced on Day 1 by Florence Verzelen.  The panel was moderated by Al Bunshaft, senior vice president of Americas Global Affairs & Academia, and featured Greg Washington, Ph.D, dean of engineering at Henry Samueli School of Engineering, UC Irvine, Landon Taylor, CEO of Base 11, and Joseph Hartman, Ph.D, dean of engineering at UMass Lowell, where the four talked about key trends in engineering education, as well as new and innovative initiatives launched to cultivate talent from the earliest school years to mid-career.

Our panelists each highlighted the programs their companies have implemented in order to empower the workforce of the future, including the Base 11 Space Challenges, which was announced on June 6 and will give $1 million to the first student-led team to design, build and launch a liquid-fueled rocket to space. Joseph Hartman of UMass Lowell also discussed our expanded partnership and plans to build a 3DEXPERIENCE Center that will open on the UMass Lowell campus in 2019.

Finally, we heard from Charles Marsh, chief of design tools and standards at Bell, a global producer of commercial and military vertical-lift aircraft, on how the company used the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform to go “above and beyond flight.” He discussed the digital thread that the Platform enables for Bell and how it allows Bell to create each aircraft faster than the last.

We are excited to see what the next year holds for innovation using the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform. Thank you to all of our customers, partners and industry experts that participated in this year’s North American FORUM. We’ll see you next year in Las Vegas!
