The field of electromagnetics is a fast-growing one, and when it comes to designing, analyzing, and optimizing electromagnetic components and systems, CST Studio Suite is a complete solution. The 2022 Studio Suite release contains a number of important new features and improvements, as well as several smaller changes and enhancements. Below is a summary of some of these new features:

In the 3D modeling area, performance has been improved when creating CST project files for large projects. A 3DEXPERIENCE user interface theme with updated menu and tree icons has been added. In CST Power’By, 3DEXPERIENCE content can now be loaded as ACIS data. Parametric SOLIDWORKS data can also be loaded from 3DEXPERIENCE.

Simulation projects inside CST Studio Suite projects can be imported to a CST Studio Suite block in another CST Studio Suite project. This is especially useful when creating self-consistent projects containing multiple antenna arrays mounted on a platform. A possibility has also been added to suppress 3D field results and consider only 1D/2D results.

In High Performance Computing, an improved SystemCheck test for MPI has been added. Also included is support of 3D field monitors on GPU. Support for parallelized CAD processing is included, as is GPU support for parts of the matrix calculation.

In post-processing, the Report Tool support for 1D plots and farfield plots has been improved. There is now a subvolume option for powerflow, current density, power loss, electric and magnetic energy density monitors.

In high frequency simulation capabilities, improvements and enhancements have been made to the following:

  • Time Domain Solver
  • Frequency Domain Solver
  • Asymptotic Solver
  • Integral Equation Solver
  • Hybrid Solver Task (Bi-directional) (SAM task)
  • Eigenmode Solver

Low frequency simulation is enhanced by the Opera Machines Designer, which offers an automated way of building, setting up and post-processing electrical machines, while allowing users to highly customize the geometric templates and analyses provided. A number of new capabilities have been introduced which are aimed at making the geometric definition as flexible and customizable as possible, while maintaining the resulting FE model fully compatible with the pre-defined type of results, in order to characterize the electrical machine.

A Spark3D-task has been implemented in Design Studio, facilitating the workflow between CST Microwave Studio and Spark3D. Antenna Magus now includes the first reflectarray design using a square unit cell; the reflectarray objectives include number of element, size, gain and scan angle. The radome library has also been expanded to include multilayer versions of the existing aerodynamic nose cone radomes.

In the area of cable simulation, the geometry processing of very thin screens and dielectric contents has been improved, as has the performance of the static2d calculation, especially for bi-directional coupling.  Improvements have been made to the interference tool, as well as the schematic editor, circuit simulation, and eye diagram signal processing.

FD3D now includes access to CST Studio Suite models stored on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, and has been upgraded with an enhanced design process for automated 3D filter dimensioning through space mapping technique. Fest3D has enhanced GUI performance and a new project file format in xml. IdEM now has performance improvements in the vector fitting process for highly resonant datasets, a new adaptive sampling algorithm to enhance passivity characterization and enforcement, and a new feature to automatically handle the reciprocity enforcement.

Finally, under the category of thermal simulation, the CHT solver now includes support for swirl effects for axial fans, centrifugal fans, heat pipes, and thermoelectric coolers (TEC) based on the Peltier effect. It also has an advanced flow resistance model with flow straightening, improved meshing robustness in the presence of self-intersecting surfaces, and faster convergence for natural convection cases.

The above are only a fraction of the changes that have been made to CST Studio Suite. Learn more at the upcoming CST Studio Suite 2022 webinar, and the Opera 2022 webinar.
