And if you want access to Best Practice documents like Automating Plastic Injection Design Exploration in 3DEXPERIENCE, all you need to do is join for free!

This is the second post in a series of SIMULIA Community Best Practices featured on the blog. Come back for more posts about SIMULA Best Practices and other interesting simulation content.

Read the first Best Practice blog, here.

This Best Practices document describes how design exploration of a plastic part design based on a Plastic Injection Mold analysis can be democratized across an organization and used in the decision-making process to arrive at an alternative design that satisfies the design requirements. The design exploration is conducted using Design of Experiments (DOE), which is defined as a branch of applied statistics that deals with planning, conducting, analyzing and interpreting controlled tests to evaluate the factors that control the value of a parameter or group of parameters.

The design exploration is conducted on a cell phone case design using the results from a Plastic Injection Mold analysis. The Plastic Injection Mold analysis is conducted using the 3DEXPERIENCE SIMULIA Plastic Injection Engineer (IME) role. The design exploration is configured in the 3DEXPERIENCE SIMULIA Optimization Process Composer application using the Multidisciplinary Optimization Engineer (MDO) role.

The design exploration is democratized by creating an experience using the SIMULIA Process Experience Studio Widget. This simulation experience can be deployed to the Design Engineers in the organization through the SIMULIA Performance Study Widget.

Finally, the results of the executed design exploration are analyzed in the SIMULIA Results Analytics Widget to select an alternative that satisfies the requirements for the end user.

Targeted audience: Plastic Product Designers, Design Engineers and Methods Developers.

In this Best Practice, you will learn about:

  • Plastic Injection mold analysis
  • Creating, configuring and deploying a design exploration experience
  • Design selection using trade-off analytics
