Infrastructure of a big city.

In the construction business, and especially when building any type of infrastructure, the costs of physical build can add up. Any mistake can cause the cost of materials to rise along with time and labor, thereby potentially compromising the deadlines and integrity of a project. With the Virtual Twin, however, you will have a virtual representation that helps close the gap between design and production, providing a digital replica—a virtual twin.

Prashanth Mysore, Global Strategic Business Development and Industry Marketing Director at Dassault Systèmes further explains. He recently stated in Infrastructure magazine how the Virtual Twin works for infrastructure:

“The benefit of Virtual Twin Experiences is that we can simulate everything first in a virtual environment. We virtually build the whole project with 3D software so we can forecast all the issues and risks you might face in the field. If an error is made in the digital environment, it’s easier to fix and the cost will be very low. In this way, we can make sure that the real construction can be successful in one shot.”

Prashanth Mysore.

We virtually build the whole project with 3D software so we can forecast all the issues and risks you might face in the field.

It’s also common in infrastructure for design changes to occur even once construction has begun. 3D models can be updated faster and simulations can be run to view all possible scenarios.

DELMIA can help create a Virtual Twin where large projects can be very complex, namely infrastructure. In fact, because of long project lifecycles particularly evident in infrastructure projects, there is huge potential for cost savings using processes like Virtual Twin Experiences.

Mysore goes on to add, “In infrastructure, we work with large projects and budgets which can be very complex, so if people make errors in the field, the cost of fixing them is huge.”
