However, the efficiency and performance of these batteries are limited by the materials they are made of, making the realistic simulation and development of battery materials a critical area of research. In a recent paper titled “Ab initio study of lithium intercalation into a graphite nanoparticle,” researchers from the University of Southampton and BIOVIA presented a novel approach to simulating the charging process of graphite-based anode materials.
