Motorcycles remain the most efficient and cost-effective mode of transport in Indonesia. In fact, the country had 125 million motorcycles on its roads in 2022 – that’s 15 times more than in the US.
The popularity of motorcycles inevitably comes at a cost: they are a significant contributor to air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions – so much so, that the Indonesian government is incentivizing organizations to expedite the development of electric vehicles in the region.
One of the electric vehicle brands being developed is Electrum. Created by Indonesian firm PT Energi Kreasi Bersama – a joint venture between energy firm PT Karya Baru TBS and e-mobility original equipment manufacturer PT Rekan Anak Bangsa – Electrum aims to support Indonesia’s shift to low-carbon, sustainable transport and to ultimately help the country’s government achieve its vision of net zero carbon emissions by 2060.
To compete with existing electric vehicle manufacturers in Indonesia, the team behind Electrum needed to imagine, develop and industrialize its new electric motorcycles at speed. However, its existing software stack was inhibiting it from doing this because it had to constantly transfer data between applications.
Electrum realized it needed a single technology platform that could support the end-to-end process from systems engineering to mechanical and shape engineering.
This is where Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform, including the industry solution Electro Mobility Accelerator, came in. The platformwill enable both the development and the industrialization of the Electrum electric mobility concept within a single, comprehensive and collaborative environment.
