Quality failures are expensive. A product recall can cost tens of millions of dollars, damage customer trust and permanently tarnish a brand. And yet, many organizations still treat quality planning as an afterthought—something to manage reactively, after problems surface. That approach is no longer sustainable.

Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) offers a structured, proactive framework for building quality into every stage of product development. But to work effectively, APQP requires more than good intentions. It requires the right platform, the right processes and a cultural commitment to quality from the ground up. That’s exactly what ENOVIA on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform delivers.

What Is APQP—and Why Does It Matter?

APQP is a quality management methodology that focuses on preventing defects before they occur, rather than detecting and correcting them after the fact. It guides organizations through five structured phases: planning, product design and development, process design and development, product and process validation, and feedback and corrective action.

Each phase builds on the last. Together, they form a continuous loop of improvement that embeds quality into the DNA of product development and manufacturing.

The business case is clear. Addressing a quality issue in the design phase costs a fraction of fixing it on the production line—or worse, after a product has shipped. APQP shifts the focus from firefighting to prevention, reducing the total cost of quality by addressing risks early, when intervention is fastest and cheapest.

Yet despite these clear benefits, many organizations still struggle to implement APQP effectively. Siloed teams, disconnected data systems and manual processes make consistent APQP execution difficult. That’s a problem ENOVIA solves.

From Spreadsheets to Strategy: How ENOVIA Transforms APQP

ENOVIA, powered by the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, transforms APQP from a compliance obligation into a strategic management system. It does this by creating a unified digital environment where all stakeholders—engineers, quality managers, project teams and suppliers—work from the same data, in real time.

Traditional APQP management relies heavily on spreadsheets, manual file transfers and fragmented communication. The result is version confusion, missed deadlines and quality gaps that only become visible when it’s too late. ENOVIA replaces this fragmented approach with a centralized, connected platform that automates workflows, tracks progress and ensures every team member has access to accurate, up-to-date information.

What the 3DEXPERIENCE platform delivers:

  • ENOVIA’s portfolio and project management capabilities allow teams to create comprehensive quality plans, establish goals and define project scope and schedule. All program activities are transparent and communicated to all relevant stakeholders—inside and outside the organization. This facilitates collaboration between OEMs and suppliers, reducing time-to-market and the total cost of quality.
  • APQP-based total quality management is directly integrated into product design, development and operations, helping teams capture key market requirements and design characteristics.
  • Risk mitigation tools such as the Design FMEA identify potential issues at the earliest possible stage, embedding proactive quality in the design phase. This means manufacturers can ensure products meet market requirements without requiring costly rework during manufacturing.
  • The manufacturing process is designed with digital tools, defining sequence, resources and time per operation. Potential risks are highlighted during manufacturing by the process FMEA, giving the opportunity to mitigate and resolve problems while still in the virtual world. The Control Plan is executed on the shop floor to immediately identify out-of-spec conditions.
  • Once a product is live, the platform continues to deliver value. It captures and manages quality events—including corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs), nonconformances, complaints and audits—with full traceability and KPI oversight. Historical analysis and standardized workflows accelerate corrective actions, reduce recurring issues and support audit readiness.
  • Teams can monitor performance, collect feedback and implement continuous improvement measures. Lessons learned are captured and applied to future projects, creating a genuine learning organization.

The Advantage of 3D UNIVERSES

One of the most significant advances in ENOVIA’s quality and compliance capabilities is the integration of AI through 3D UNIVERSES. Within this framework, AI-powered capabilities transform quality and compliance workflows in ways that were previously not possible.

In APQP project management, predictive intelligence helps teams identify potential project delays, anticipate risks and receive AI-driven recommendations for corrective and preventive actions. This reduces project duration and minimizes recurring issues.

These AI capabilities don’t replace human judgment—they augment it. Teams get the insights they need, faster, to make better decisions at every stage of the product development process.

Real Organizations, Real Results

The impact of managing APQP with ENOVIA isn’t theoretical. Organizations across a wide range of industries have seen measurable improvements in quality, efficiency and time-to-market.

Pheon Auto Tech, an Indian maker of mechanical-electrical switches for off-highway vehicles, uses ENOVIA to maintain compliance with APQP standards while making it easier to collaborate with OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers and manage requirements throughout product development. Pheon says this supports stronger quality control at every stage, alongside broader operational gains, including smoother real-time collaboration, greater accountability, faster customer response times and a 15–20% reduction in project timelines.

“With ENOVIA on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, we can maintain compliance with advanced product quality planning (APQP) standards and collaborate with OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers faster and easier, Raman Malik, Managing Director at Pheon, said. “ENOVIA helps us to ensure that all requirements are managed and allows us to drive quality at every stage of our product development.”

PLAST-MET, a Polish manufacturer of sheet metal parts for the automotive industry, implemented ENOVIA on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to centralize its entire product development value chain and meet increasingly stringent APQP standards. The results were compelling.

With ENOVIA, PLAST-MET has increased control and visibility of its design and product data, making compliance with APQP standards more efficient and easier to demonstrate. The data is shared both internally among its project management, quality control and product engineering teams, and externally with OEMs, facilitating better collaboration and driving quality into PLAST-MET’s products and processes.

“With the 3DEXPERIENCE platform we can maintain compliance with APQP standards and collaborate with OEMs faster and easier,” said Robert Kiełtyka, Chief Technology Officer at PLAST-MET. “In the future, we expect to shorten the design process by 25% and to reduce time to market by 20% due to APQP implementation.”

Sandhar, an Indian automotive components manufacturer, faced pressure to control costs while managing complex APQP processes across more than 40 manufacturing locations. After implementing ENOVIA on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, the company established a structured, digital APQP process that transformed how it operated.

“Now, we have a proper APQP process,” said Yatendra Singh Chauhan, Chief Operating Officer at Sandhar. “Through that, our timelines are being managed properly and we are working 10–15% more efficiently than before.”

The company also reduced warranty claims to less than 0.1% of revenue—an extraordinary achievement at their scale.

Stelweld, a Polish metal fabrication specialist, uses ENOVIA on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform for APQP governance—supporting quality plans and processes that have reduced production mistakes and improved work instruction accuracy.

“The platform ensures that all requirements stated in the APQP are reflected in the task sequence,” said Marek Cwenar, Director of the R&D Center at Stelweld. “It also simplifies managing tasks such as feasibility studies and coordinating team involvement. By adopting the 3DEXPERIENCE platform on the cloud, the company created a unified environment connecting design, project management, manufacturing and governance. By integrating the platform with its MES, Şahince Otomotiv has also introduced APQP protocols into the manufacturing process and is driving quality improvements as a result. Overall, Şahince Otomotiv estimates its teams now work around 30% faster.

“By leveraging the 3DEXPERIENCE platform on the cloud, we have transformed the way our company operates,” said Özgür Şahin, General Manager of Şahince Otomotiv. “We are now working 30% faster. Our state-of-the-art approach will reinforce our leading position in the sector and help us continue to deliver innovative customer-oriented solutions.”

Quality Is Not a Department—It’s a Culture

The organizations that succeed with APQP are those that treat quality not as a compliance requirement, but as a core part of how they operate. This cultural shift is as important as any technical solution.

ENOVIA supports this shift by embedding quality into daily operations—through standardized workflows, real-time visibility, automated reporting and continuous improvement tools. When quality data flows automatically through a connected platform, quality decisions become faster, more consistent and more reliable.

The 3DEXPERIENCE platform’s strong data management capabilities ensure that all decisions are made based on precise, current data. This enables teams to be more flexible in responding to unforeseen changes and challenges throughout product development and manufacturing.

The organizations that build quality into their DNA—from design to delivery—are the ones that reduce recalls, retain customers and grow sustainably. APQP, managed through ENOVIA, makes that possible.

Making the Case for Proactive Quality

The question isn’t whether quality matters. Every organization knows it does. The real question is whether quality management is proactive or reactive—strategic or accidental.

Reactive quality management is expensive. It means rework, recalls, warranty claims and reputational damage. Proactive quality management, structured around APQP and powered by ENOVIA, turns quality into a competitive asset. It shortens development cycles, reduces total cost of quality and builds the kind of customer trust that drives long-term business growth.

When your team members and suppliers are notified about task assignments and complete the expected deliverables, approval processes kick off automatically, and project analytics display the current project status in real time. Working at the speed of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform gives you business agility – rapid innovation, real-time decision making and higher quality upon product launch.

The manufacturers and suppliers who win in competitive markets are those that get products right the first time, bring them to market faster and continuously improve. That’s what APQP—properly managed—enables. And that’s what ENOVIA on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform delivers.
