High Performance Computing (HPC) is used for a wide array of demanding corporate computing tasks, including simulation, deep learning and more. Traditionally, corporations were required to install computers and software for their every computing requirement, which demanded a great deal of resources: housing, dedicated power and cooling, switches, UPS, firewalls, fire protection, cabling, racks and enough manpower to manage and upgrade the computers as well as their supporting infrastructure.

All of this was extremely costly, especially as this infrastructure required upgrades or full replacements every three to five years as new technology came along. However, this all began to change in the early 2000s with the introduction of the cloud. Switching to cloud-based computing saved companies a tremendous amount of space and money by turning HPC infrastructure from physical to virtual. HPC on the cloud has provided greater flexibility for product manufacturers, allowing them to access software, hardware and peripheral services on-demand in a one-stop-shop.

As more companies begin using simulation for product design, it makes sense that this technology should move to the cloud as well. Dassault Systèmes realized early on that it didn’t make sense for simulation technology to exist in isolation, unavailable to CAD designers or PLM specialists. The 3DEXPERIENCE platform brings together tools, data, hardware and licensing in a comprehensive and collaborative cloud setting that can be accessed by team members working all over the world.

If your company isn’t using the cloud for simulation yet, the whitepaper “Cloud-Based High Performance Computing: Gaining Value by Moving On-Premise Simulation to Cloud through POWER’BY” offers compelling arguments and resources for doing so, either fully or partially. The Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE platform offers options for either a full shift or a hybrid approach, because it is still a major undertaking for large corporations with investments in on-premise infrastructure to move to the cloud.

With 3DEXPERIENCE, that undertaking doesn’t have to be so major. Dassault Systèmes is presenting the POWER’BY option to enable existing customers using traditional on-premise HPC solutions to benefit from 3DEXPERIENCE with minimal investment. POWER’BY allows non-platform products to run in the 3DEXPERIENCE environment and take advantage of its features, including collaboration, data management and on-demand cloud execution.

Switching to the cloud for simulation can be of immense benefit to companies, but such a comprehensive overhaul is understandably intimidating. The 3DEXPERIENCE platform takes that intimidation away by allowing for a gradual shift. With the POWER’BY solution, users can experience the cloud on their terms, deciding if and when they want to make a full switch.

Learn more about these options, as well as 3DEXPERIENCE and cloud solutions in general, by downloading the free whitepaper here.
