Core Material is the main substance that makes up the Engineering Item – such as steel, aluminum, bronze, etc.

Covering Material is the material used to cover the item surface – such as paint, varnish, waxes, protective coatings, etc.

In the app, “Engineering Release Management,” you can view and apply both Core and Covering Materials on the Engineering Item in the following ways:

  • Core Material – as a volume of material
    • The Core Material will be defined as a new Engineering Item that describes the consumption of the material required in the Engineering Definition
  • Core Material – as the material that the Engineering Item is made of
    • The Core Material will be defined as information on the related Engineering Item
    • No new Engineering Item will be created
  • Covering Material – as the material that the surface of the Engineering Item is covered with
    • The Covering Material will be defined as information on the related Engineering Item
    • No new Engineering Item will be created

All the materials mentioned above are created in 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA and/or SIMULIA native apps, and then reused in “Engineering Release” as mentioned in the above use cases.
