Extending from 3D design and CAD, we moved toward 3D digital mock-ups (DMU) and product data management (PDM), setting the stage for later innovations like product lifecycle management (PLM). While 3D design virtualized pre-assembly of simple objects, 3D DMU opened up the design of complex systems in context. PDM introduced collaboration around projects and programs.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Ch3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1994-industrial-expansion\">1994: Industrial expansion\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>While we’ve maintained a presence in the aerospace industry for almost 50 years, the 1990s marked the period when Dassault Systèmes began expanding into other industries. During this decade, we began to also serve partners and customers in the consumer goods, high-tech, shipbuilding and energy industries. With \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.3ds.com\u002Fproducts\u002Fenovia\">ENOVIA\u003C\u002Fa>, teams can manage every aspect of product information across engineering, manufacturing and supply chain functions.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Ch2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1999-2012-3d-product-lifecycle-management-2\">1999-2012: 3D Product Lifecycle Management\u003C\u002Fh2>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>In the late 1990s, our roots in CAD, DMU and PDM led us to our fourth generation, which saw the introduction of \u003Ca href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.3ds.com\u002Ftechnologies\u002Fproduct-lifecycle-management\">product lifecycle management\u003C\u002Fa> (PLM) for 3D design, simulation analysis and digital manufacturing. The creation of 3D PLM shifted the company’s identity from software for design tasks to software for the full lifecycle of products.
