If we monitor blood pressure accurately and continuously, can we save billions of lives globally?

That’s the challenge that drives Dynocardia. That’s the question the medtech startup is trying to answer with help from the Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE Lab accelerator program.. It’s a wrist-wearable device with enough processing power to enable accurate, continuous blood pressure monitoring. The Cambridge, Mass-based company believes its technology has potential to improve outcomes for the roughly 1.5 billion people living with hypertension around the world.

The Dynocardia team set out to surmount century-old obstacles of obtaining accurate blood pressure measurement with its ViTrack technology. In hospitals, for example, problems stemming from inaccurate or intermittent blood pressure measurement can lead to clinically significant complications. Existing options for measurement include cuffed devices, which provide intermittent and frequently inaccurate readings, or invasive intra-arterial catheters.

With its proprietary ViTrack methodology, Dynocardia has developed the first non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP) method for continuous and accurate measurement. Its wearable optomechanical sensor allows cuff-less and ambulatory measurement. The team believes its big idea for better blood pressure measurement is the key to saving lives from hypertension.

It’s early days for Dynocardia. The Cambridge, Mass.-based startup joined the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab accelerator in Fall 2020 with hopes of getting to market – and helping people – faster thanks 3DS’s tech and expertise.

“We are so grateful to 3DS for their interest in our work and investment in our efforts,” says Dynocardia founder Mohan Thanikachalam. “We believe that their state-of-the-art prototyping facilities located here in Boston, along with 3DS’s product development software portfolio, automated platform for clinical recruitment, and strength of their engineering, IT, and design teams worldwide will allow us to commercialize ViTrack much faster than we’d have been able to otherwise.”
