High-profile cyber-attacks have resulted in multi-week operational downtime and billions of pounds in losses. Interconnected IT systems and third-party dependencies can amplify business risk, while data consolidation raised the security threshold. While the root causes vary, these incidents highlight the importance of controlling where and how critical data is stored.\u003C/p>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>To help mitigate this, \u003Ca href=\"https://www.computerweekly.com/news/366626126/UK-data-reforms-become-law?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the UK’s Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 has now become law\u003C/a> and \u003Ca href=\"https://www.gov.uk/government/news/security-measures-strengthened-to-bolster-uk-data-storage-protections\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">minimum security and resilience requirements will be introduced for data centres in the UK\u003C/a>, along with \u003Ca href=\"https://www.fieldfisher.com/en/insights/tech-regulation-quarterly-newsletter-july-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">growing EU data‑governance regulations\u003C/a>.
